Canon: Harry Potter
Character: Fred Weasley
Timeline: Deathly Hallows - Post-Death
Personality:
Throughout the series, Fred can always be described with the word 'funny.' Both him and his twin brother, George, are pranksters. The type who tries to make things fun whenever he can. He is also the other half of George, always, always with him and next to him. For the two of them to be apart is a rare sight; one that usually is not because they want to be. Other than George, Fred differs from the rest of his brothers. Especially his brother, Percy.
Out of the twins, Fred is the more daring one. Between the two of them, he is usually the one to come up with the more dangerous ideas. Fred often shows himself to be less merciful than George as well, having a larger temper towards people that he doesn't like. When conned out of all their money by Bagman, Fred suggests that they blackmail him for it. George is the one to tell him that it is not a good idea. He doesn't mind at all doing harsh things to people he doesn't like in general, such as pushing Umbridge's Spy into a Vanishing Cabinet with no idea or care where he went. He will not do anything dangerous on purpose to someone that he doesn't have a problem with however. Fred is also more of the leader between the two of them. He's usually the one to speak first out of the two, or engage in risky operations like leaving Ton Toffee behind for Dudley to eat. He is more prone to be overly sarcastic than his brother.
Fred Weasley is extremely quick-witted, often coming up with ideas off the top of his head. His jokes are pure of the moment on most occasions. However he does plan out them as well, such as when it came to revenge on Umbridge. He is usually not one to pass up on chances to joke around, unless it's 100% inappropriate. While one might not suspect it due to his measly three O.W.L.S; Fred is extremely smart -- enough for Hermione to question how he is able to invent several their products. He's only smart even he wants to be however. If something is not necessary or interesting for him, he probably will not bother with it. As George said, "I always thought that Fred and I should have got 'E's for simply showing up for the Exams." This also goes with how Fred is more about enjoying life and having fun than following rules or learning. This is one reason why he picked on Percy, and then Ron for becoming Prefects. He figured that being something like that sucked the fun out of everything, much to Molly's displeasure. Fred does what he enjoys disregarding any punishment that may come with it. He prefers to joke around upsetting situations than take them seriously. Despite how silly this might make him, such as joking about Harry being the Heir of Slytherin. It's something that he does to make others feel better.
Despite his carefree persona, Fred does what he must if it means protecting his friends. This is why he participated in events such as the Battle of Seven Potters and the Battle of Hogwarts. Even if it was not anything close to a happy or fun situation, it was to help and protect those closest to them. Before each of these situations, he attempted to joke around to lighten the tension as well. It's a rare moment when you will not find Fred joking around. One of these moments being when someone close to him is injured, such as George. When Fred saw George injured on the couch, it was a moment that Harry saw him completely speechless and colorless.
By now it's obvious that Fred is a jokes around a lot. Almost always is a good description as when he does so, except for when mentioned above. Jokes and pranks are a grand part of his life, and have been so since he was child. This also made him quite the troublemaker, and thus a problem to the grounds keeper at Hogwarts. However, they always knew where the line was. Which is why, Fred claims, he and George had never gone so far as to get expelled. Only in enough trouble to get grounded or detention. He doesn't want any harm to the victim of his jokes or pranks unless that's it's intent. Fred is apologetic when is accidentally harmed by one of his items, offering Hermione some black-eye remover when she was punched by a Punching Telescope. It was a dream of his to own a Joke Shop with his twin brother, George. He accomplished this dream during his seventh year at Hogwarts. He was able to sell things via mail in his early years however and opened a mini-joke shop in his early years at Hogwarts.
Fred is an amazing businessperson. Within a few months of the twin's shop being open they had already made enough to buy themselves dragon-skinned suits. George and him started this business themselves by selling items out of their house. Fred is also an amazing gambler, winning the bet with Bagman on the Irish and Krum, despite how little faith everyone one else had that it would happen - except George of course. However he did not expect Bagman betraying them and causing them to loss all their money. It took a year of attempting to gather their money back before Fred and George lost their dream. For Fred to give up on something is not something that happens all too often, such as when he was not allowed to participate in the Triwizard Tournament. Instead of simply accepting this, he attempted to use an aging potion to get across the line. However Harry restored this hope when he gave them his winnings. Despite the many obstacles that came, Fred and George continued to work towards their dream.
Fred is also the type to stand up for others, especially against people such as Umbridge. As Ginny said, "The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you begin to believe anything is possible if you have enough nerve." With that, one can imply that Fred hardly backs down. He is brave and courageous to say the least -- he willingly eats and tests his own joke products despite the effects that they give. The Skiving Snackbox, for example, is something that he and George ate and tested on their own, even when they did not completely have the cure yet. This is not the only example of their nerve either. Fred would not have gotten where he did in his life if he had not had the nerve to stand up for what he believed in.
For the most part, it's extremely easy to make Fred your friend. Or rather, for Fred to be someone's friend. Despite his sarcasm, he is extremely friendly and usually kind to others. Especially those who deserve it. He also cares a lot for his friends, giving them items that he thinks that they may need (even if he uses it himself). He is capable and flexible enough to friends with someone as different from him as Hermione. Fred is not the type that tries to make enemies, usually only ignoring (or messing with occasionally) people that do not like him or vice versa. It's the same for things he doesn't like, he will simply joke about such or ignore it.
When Percy left the family, Fred and George found themselves to be extremely pissed off at him; family betrayal is not something that Fred is able to overlook. However, he is also the type to forgive easily enough when the person admits that they were utterly wrong. This can be seen when he is the first to forgive Percy and even fought next to him not long after their make-up. When it comes to fighting, Fred does so when he needs too and is good at defending himself. It most likely helps that he is in good shape due to the fact he played Quidditch during his years at Hogwarts.
One of the most important features of Fred's personality is his twin - George. Ever since the two of them were little, they had been together. Fred grew up around him and hardly found himself away from his twin. Due to this, they formed an extremely tight bond. If something happened to George, Fred could indirectly feel it as well. In a way, George is almost his inspiration along with the calmer side of him, thinking things out more rational so Fred didn't do something he would later regret. It has taken three people to hold back Fred, while it generally takes one grasp to hold back George. Fred has much more of a temper. More than anything in the world, Fred loves his brother. The two of them shared a dream and a life together. If it was not for George, Fred would not be the person he is. Fred would do anything for his twin, like he would almost anything for most of his family. Having a large family like he does, he cares a lot about them and is defensive about them (especially Ginny) . He is happy having all them, even if they do not have a lot of money. He is the type that can be happy just while he has George and the people that he loves, with being what he loves to be a bonus: being a sarcastic, mischievous joker by his twin's side.
Background:
Fred was accurately born on April Fool's Day along with George Weasley. Both were already pulling pranks on their brothers as children. This went from Fred transforming an item into a giant spider (giving his brother a fear of spiders) after Ron broke his toy broomstick to attempting make an unbreakable vow with Ron. They also managed to scare away their boring aunt from visiting each Christmas. They were already causing chaos before going to school. Their mother was also the one that taught them basic grammar, language, math, and other subjects before their arrival at Hogwarts.
Once Fred entered Hogwarts he managed easily to get into trouble. In his first year both him and his brother stole the Marauder's Map and opened a joke shop in a disused bathroom. In Fred's early years, he cared enough to get good grades. They also were made beaters in their second year; already being popular for their pranks and jokes.
While on their way to their third year of Hogwarts, Fred and George decide to play a prank on their mother by pretending to be each other before running to the nine 3/4 platform. Their mother helps a small boy onto the platform, then Fred is called over by George to help him lift the small boy's luggage into the train. The two then realize it was Harry Potter. dun dun dun, the boy who lived. Before they could really do anything though, they were told not to get into much trouble by their mother as well as not to tease Ron and Percy or blow up toilet seats. It was then that the rest of the Weasley family was told that the small boy was Harry Potter.
Afterwards they got onto the train, introducing themselves to Harry Potter before going to find Lee and his spider. Fred supported Harry when he found out that he was going to be part of the Quidditch them this year as he and George were also part of the team. He along with the rest of the team helped Harry practice and learn about the game. They won the first Quidditch due to Harry which made the two of them extremely happy.
Christmas time came soon after, and Forge and Gorge (Fred and George) pulled the whole family into spending Christmas together. All of them also welcomed Harry to spend the day with them, welcoming him as a part of the family in a way. Fred and his twin brother spent the rest of the year as normal, taking no part in Harry's little adventure. Though happy when Gryffindor won the house cup due to Ron, Hermione, and Harry; even if they did lose so many points due to them.
As the summer went by, Fred's brother Ron soon got worried about his friend Harry Potter. Taking lead in this situation, Fred and George took their dad's car to go rescue him. Ron came with them, of course. Flying up to his bedroom window, they took the bars off the windows. Fred moved into Harry's door to muggle pick-lock before going and getting Harry's items to put in the car. Before the four of them were able to leave flawlessly, Harry got grabbed by his uncle and they had to pull him to safety.
After that, Fred and George got caught by their mom and had to go degnome the garden with Ron once they were finished getting yelled at. The punishment did not last too long though, as their father came home not long after and got into a small fight with their mother. So they left. The next day Hogwarts letters came and they got a list of a bunch of Lockhart books. When it was time to go get the supplies, Fred and George demonstrated how to use floo powder for Harry.
However Harry still ended somewhere else. The Weasleys found him eventually anyway. It was not long that they found Lee Jordan and went to go hang out with him in the joke shop. Later they met their family in the bookstore and cheered their father on when he almost fought Malfoy. Shopping finished not long afterwards and they went home. Next day it was time to head to the train. It was a bit harder than it had to be as everyone kept forgetting something. Fred and George hardly made it on the train.
Fred and George did congratulate the two of them for stealing the car to get to the school however.
Once it was time for Quidditch again, Wood had them all come to early practice. Fred fell asleep on Alicia's shoulder instead of listening. Once it was time to get on the field, Slytherin stepped in claiming the field. Fred and George attempted to jump Malfoy when he called Hermione a mudblood, but were stopped when Ron's slug spell backfired onto him. Practice was canceled and all of them were in a bad mood.
The next match was against Slytherin, and Fred ordered Harry to get the snitch He was unhappy that the other team had better brooms than they did. During the match however, Fred and George had to protect Harry from a rogue Bludger. It was a tough battle as it kept heading back towards him, causing the twins to miss the other Bludger when it tried to hit their other teammates. This continued until they were ordered to leave the it alone by both Wood and Harry; to their displeasure. The game was won when Harry got the snitch and Fred with George pushed the rogue Bludger back into the box.
Afterwards them and the whole team went to go visit Harry in the Hospital Wing, but were kicked out before they could begin to celebrate. Fred and George were also the only two who did not believe that Harry was the Heir of Slytherin. They turned it into their personal joke instead, cheering Harry up slightly about the situation. Ginny and Percy did not really like them doing this. However it was their main position in the story, to joke around and make light of dark situations. Its a role that the two twins find themselves playing often.
During Christmas season, Fred and George stayed at Hogwarts as their parents went to go visit Bill in Egypt. He and his brother were dismayed when they heard Ginny was taken. They had joked around with her during the year, unaware that her metal state was pressured due to the diary. However, they got her back before the end of the year.
Best of all, they found out that Percy had a secret girlfriend after the school year was over.
The Weasley spent their time at Egypt during the summer, coming back once the school year approached. Fred and George eagerly welcomed Harry when they spotted him once back in the country. Apparently they attempted to lock Percy in a pyramid during the summer. Also happy that they did not become Prefects at Hogwarts, despite Molly not thinking so. As Fred's fifth year at Hogwarts started, already something interesting happened on the train. As they went to the school, Malfoy almost made it to their compartment scrambling to get away from dementors. At the table at Hogwarts, George and he told Harry about it in attempt to make him feel better about passing out.
This Quidditch year was especially important as was the last one for their team captain, Oliver Wood. A friend of theirs that was taking it exceptionally serious. However they lost against Hufflepuff due to the dementors; Fred took it on himself and George to go tell Harry with Ron and Hermione.
Fred and George played their most important part of the year during Christmas season. Before the two of them went to the town themselves, they pulled Harry aside. Here, they gave him what he claimed to be the reason for their success. Demonstrating how to use it and close it; the twins gave it to Harry and left for Hogsmeade themselves. Satisfied with their work.
Over the summer between their fifth and sixth year, Fred and his brother got more involved with their dream of owning a joke shop. They had already begun mailing out products and had order sheets until their mom caught them. She ripped up their order sheets and banned them from selling or creating any more nonsense.
Later, Fred, George, Mr. Weasley, and Ron went to go get Harry for the rest of the summer via chimney, but they got stuck inside it instead. Obviously they created a large ruckus at the Dursleys from doing that. After getting out, Mr. Weasley spoke to them while Fred and George went to go get Harry's luggage. (or more importantly, find Dudley.) After that they got the luggage, George headed home, and Fred 'dropped' several pieces of toffee on the floor before following him.
He went home after that. Once Harry came through, he asked if Dudley had ate it. He was pleased with the results, but Mr. Weasley came through not long after and once again they got in trouble. More so when Mrs. Weasley hears and scolds them for making it, as well as getting only three o.w.l.s each, and throws out the candy. Before the family leaves for the Quidditch Cup, Molly scouts them for the Ton Toffees. She finds a bunch causing the twins to get in trouble again, leaving to the Cup on terrible terms with her.
Once there, the two of them bet their life savings on the Irish and Krum, much to their father's displeasure. They managed to win the bet and collect from Bagman. The Cup is then attacked and they escape with Ginny. Ron, Hermione, and Harry are lost somewhere else. At home, they get squeezed by their mother who was worried sick, especially since she let them go while they were all unhappy with one another. It was around then that the twins realized that the money that had gotten had disappeared and they made plans to contact Bagman.
Of course, they were also bugging their family about what was happening at Hogwarts that was so important. Even going so far as screaming it out at their family as the train rolled away. Still, they had not forgotten that they busted their life saving and continued to try to get in contact with Bagman.
At Hogwarts, they find out that they cannot participate in the Triwizard Cup. Unhappy, they claim that they will find a way regardless. Between trying to figure out what to do with their loss of money, they develop a Age Potion with Lee Jordan. They take it and step over the age line guarding the cup. However they both get blasted backwards, Dumbledore comes and the two twins laugh about it before heading off to in Infirmary with long gray beards and Lee Jordan.
Fred decides to blackmail Bagman after figuring out that he doesn't have any money, however George stops him, claiming that they should not stoop that low. So they do not and simply continue trying to figure out different ways to gather their money. Fred goes to the Yule Ball with Angelica, also hanging out with George during the dance. Fred and George were also the to bring Hermione and Ron to Dumbledore for the second trial. During the Cup, they support Harry completely and cheer for him once he wins. However that was disrupted when it's found out that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back. Fred is one to believe Harry.
On the ride back, they help Ron, Hermione, Harry curse off Malfoy's gang as they settled into the coach for the ride home. Finally the tell them what they had been doing all year, as the trio (especially Ron) had been asking the whole time. It was before they all got off the train that Harry forcefully gave them his Triwizard earnings.
Fred's seventh and final year is where he plays one of his most important parts. They work during the summer on their store and begin to sell items through mail again and invent new products. They also attempted to listen in on Order meetings. In addition, Fred and George also took their Apparition tests and passed, and are now of age to use magic, which both of them take large advantage of it and use it whenever possible. The two of them also mocked Ron when they found out that he was to be a perfect.
At Hogwarts, already Fred begins his year with interest in selling his products by setting up flyers for testers. However, Hermione threatened to tell their mother if he tested on first-years. Fred was happy when Ron became keeper for the Quidditch team, helping him practice when he needed it. Using products whenever he could, he took advantage of a situation that occurred when someone on the team got a bloody nose from Ron. He gave her what he thought would stop the bleeding, however it was actually a Blood Blisterpod. When he noticed that she was not getting better, he and his brother brought her to the Infirmary, ending practice short.
Later in the year, Fred signed up to be part of Dumbledore's Army with the others during a visit to Hogsmeade. He then left to visit Zonko's Joke Shop and do other business activities. Not long after though, all groups were disbanded. Harry decided to keep it going anyway, and they congratulated him. Fred and George were glad that Harry was going against the rules and upset at how Umbridge did not give them back their Quidditch team.
Once they did managed to get the rights back, they went back to practicing. However the next practice ended early as well due to bad weather. Fred complained about ruptured ribs while George's were throbbing. Luckily they were able to win the next Quidditch game, despite Ron's terrible keeping (due to taunting) and bad practices. After winning however, Malfoy began to taunt Ron and their family. Fred went to go to punch him but was held back by Angelica, Alicia and Katie. George was also held back by Harry, alas they both ended attacking Malfoy once Harry's parent were taunted. All three of them were kicked off the team.
Around Christmas time, they learned that their father was attacked and went home early. They attempted to see him at once; but were told to wait until their father was safely in the hospital and their mother came for them. When they did go to visit him it quickly turned into a Order of the Phoenix meeting; one that Fred and George were able to listen in on with Extendable Ears. There everyone heard something about Harry getting possessed. Obviously it was their fault that Harry heard such a thing. (but shush)
When Christmas came, their family-disowning brother, Percy, sent them back their Christmas Jumper, much to the twin's displeasure and the family's sadness.
However once Dumbledore left Hogwarts due to being against the Ministry, Fred and George decided to give up on school entirely. Only planning on staying around a bit longer to give Dumbledore theirs. Not long after, they pushed Umbridge's spy into a Vanishing Cabinet and later unleashing fireworks to cause chaos all over the school.
As one final act to help Harry talk to Sirius, Fred and George created swamps all over the school. They were caught by this however and surrounded by Umbridge and her students. Before they could be punished the two of them summoned their broomsticks and flew off announcing that their shop was open and it was time to start their business.
Their store is extremely successful, as the next time that Harry sees them the two of them own dragon-skinned suits.
Fred and George's shop is still success months later, even though everyone was living in fear of Voldemort. The two of them helped bring laughter to the world with their joke shop, making fun of him with U-No-Poo. Eventually their family (and Hermione and Harry) came to see their shop. They showed them around and allowed Harry to take whatever he wanted. They'd also begun a defense against dark arts line. Here they also showed their displeasure for Ginny dating someone. Their family left leaving them to continue working in their shop.
By now, Fred and George had moved out of the house, coming to visit for Christmas. where they bugged Ron about Lavender Brown along with how they were not of age yet. When Percy stopped by, the two twins caused him to leave by splatting food on his glasses. the
When it came time to move Harry from the Dursley's house, Fred joined with the others by being one of the seven Harry's to fly to different locations. Fred was to fly with his father whiles his twin went with Lupin. It was during the battle that Fred got a bad feeling about George. When he arrived back at their house with his dad, he rushed into to see if George was okay.
At the sight of George's ear, he found himself to be speechless for once. However once George began to joke, Fred lightened up himself about how terrible his joke was. It was not until they were saddened by Mad-eye's death that they stopped. Over the next few days, Fred helped with the wedding preparation and with his brother's ear loss. When it came time for the wedding, Fred was a greeter along with his twin taking the hot cousins before George was able to. After the wedding was over, Fred and George flirted with the hot ladies that were there, recalling their old uncle that used to be the bomb at events. The reception was then suddenly attacked, but they managed to survive.
It was after the wedding that their friend, Lee, step up a radio channel called 'Potterwatch'. Under a secret code name, Fred helped him till the truth of what was going on along with many others. They managed not to get caught doing so and supported Harry fully from behind the scenes.
After a while, Fred and George got a message from the D.A through their fake Galleons and they headed to Hogwarts with Ginny. Once arriving there, they were clued in on Harry's plan and began to prepare for the Battle of Hogwarts as Voldemort was heading towards them. The two of them took on the job of securing the secret passage ways and left to do so. During the battle, Fred was separated from George and ended battling next to Percy (who he had made up with earlier). Percy joked about quitting the Ministry and Fred laughed about so. While he commented that Percy would never do such a thing, an explosion came from the Room of Requirement. The explosion was close enough to him that it caused his death.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
Fred is a capable full-grown wizard. Able to do all types of spells from his world along other pleasures that of-age wizards can do, as long as he has his wand. While he didn't pay much attention in school, he has enough knowledge to be a dangerous threat. He's also an inventor, coming up with a whole store of different products the he and his brother invented together. Some even confusing wizards such as Hermione on how they were made. Fred was, mostly likely, extremely good at potions. One of the reasons that he's able to make products such as Love Potions. He also has a knack for mischief and jokes. Fred was also part of the Quidditch team as a Blunder, so he's talented at hitting a crazed ball with a stick while on a broom.
Sample Journal Post: [Well.... this was not what he expected. There's a long silence on the communicator before Fred actually speaks.] Looks like this place could use some work. Might be that Snape's hair might be better looking than this place. [Honestly, what a wreck.]
Shame really, looks like it once could have a been a great place. [Well, not that it mattered anymore. The place was in ruins, something that wasn't his fault. At the moment seeing if anyone was around here sounded like a plan.] So where is everyone? Can't be that I'm the only one around here. [That'd be really, really boring. Fred paused before glancing around the area a tad bit more. There were buildings that he didn't recognize, not that he thought that he would. After all, he was dead. Which left him with no reason to question where he was. It was the afterlife probably. His eyes rested on the communicator.]
What's thi- [With that, he found himself turning off the video. Whoops.]
Sample RP: Fred woke up with a harsh start, the explosion still rushing in his mind. For a moment his head hurt, giving the impression that everything else hurt as well. Nothing else did however. He exhaled slowly, he was breathing as well. No, he was dead. He was sure that he was dead. As much as he did not want to admit so, it was true. He had taken more of the blast then Percy and was dead as a result. Not that he wanted Percy to die instead of him. He raised his hand to head to rest his head against it. George, that was this his main concern. How was he feeling right now, since he had left him behind. He attempted to ignore the tears that fell, but found himself unable. Now if only he had been able to miss that explosion. After a moment, he moved his other hand into wiping the tears away. He didn't remember the last time that he had honestly cried like that, it was impossible to do so when you were around George.
Swallowing the rest of his tears, he focused on the situation. He was in the afterlife probably. Fred gazed around his surroundings. Even if this place did not fit his expectations. It was like someone took whateverthisplacewassupposedtobe and made it ugly. Was it possible for the afterlife to get destroyed? Maybe the afterlife had just finished a war. Either way he figured that there would be white pillars and harps all around. That is what people usually thought the afterlife involved right? At least not an apocalyptic world like the one that he was in now. He placed his hands on the floor as he pushed himself up.
A moment later he found himself frowning; where were all the other people who had passed away. Seeing them here would have made this whole situation a tad bit easier. Now he had to investigate this place himself.
"What a shame," He muttered as he began to walk around. Nothing else to do really. "Someone else outta be around here somewhere. Can't be the only dead person right?" He joked quietly to himself, joking around somehow always made the situation feel lighter. As Fred walked slowly around the area that he arrived, he spotted something on the ground close to where he had gotten up. He went calmly back over to pick it up. How did he miss this? He wasn't actually looking for anything in particular.
Except.
Well.
People. Or y'know spirits, being dead in the afterlife really should have came from other spirits. Did he need tokens to buy them or something? Fred shook his head, that was a ridiculous - though a funny thought. He focused on the item in his head. It definitely looked like it would be useful. It wasn't his, but it may have been given to him. Why else would an useful looking item in a dead - in both literal and non-literal term, zone. A slight thought that this was not the afterlife came to mind, but he shook it off. This could be limbo after all.
As Fred messed around with the device, entries appeared on the screen. More importantly - entries made by other people. So he was not the only dead person here. Score one for the Weasleys. "Knew I would get it working, George." He muttered to himself, despite mentioning his brother's name. It was an odd habit, one that would probably have to go. As much as he wanted to see his brother, he did not want to see him dead. It'd be a long, long time until he saw George again, deserved a nice life. Fred let out a mild bitter chuckle before turning his attention completely back to the device.
He knew there had to be a way for him to make an entry and he had found it after little try. Turning the video function on, Fred began to think of a few things that he could ask. One of which being where was everyone. Yes, that sounded like a brilliant idea. As he gave a strained smile at the screen, he spoke.
"This place is a brilliant wreak, isn't it?"
